How to Wear a Retainer Graphic

How to Insert

  • 1. Align - Hold the retainer up to your teeth and align it with your gumline.
  • 2. Place - Gently place the retainer over your front teeth first.
  • 3. Press - Use your fingertips to gently press the retainer into place on each side.
The retainer should fit snugly and fully seat on all teeth. You may feel slight pressure—that's normal!

How to Remove

  • 1. Unhook - Use your finger to unhook the retainer from your teeth (one side at a time).
  • 2. Remove - Once unhooked on both sides, gently pull the retainer away from your teeth and remove.
Always remove your retainers with clean hands and store them in their case.

Why Retainer Wear Is Important

  • Prevents Shifting - Teeth naturally want to move. Retainers hold them in their new, straight position.
  • Protects Your Results - Retainer wear protects the time, effort, and investment you've made in your smile.
  • Supports Long-Term Stability - Consistent wear helps maintain a healthy bite and beautiful smile.
  • A Lifetime of Smiles - Retainers are your smile's best friend for life!

Retainer Wear Schedule

  • For the first year, after completion of orthodontic treatment, wear your retainers every single night while you sleep.
  • After the first year, wear your retainers a few nights a week to help keep your smile stable.

Quick Care Tips

  • Remove to Eat & Drink - Always remove your retainers when eating or drinking anything other than water.
  • Clean Daily - Rinse and brush your retainers gently with a soft toothbrush and mild soap or retainer cleanser. Rinse well with cool water.
  • Store Safely - When not in your mouth, keep your retainer in its case to protect it from damage or loss.
  • Keep Away from Heat - Do not use hot water or expose retainers to heat—this can warp them.
  • Handle with Care - Retainers are durable but not indestructible. Handle gently and avoid bending.

Wear them. Care for them. Keep your smile forever.
