Types Of Braces In Aurora, ON

Why choose Aurora Orthodontics for your family’s braces treatment?

Dr. Shojaei’s conservative approach allows him to render treatment without removing any permanent teeth when possible. Ideally, we like to see children around the age of seven or eight to develop baseline measurements and monitor the skeletal development. By doing this, he can tell if early intervention with a growth modification appliance might help reduce or eliminate the need for more extensive treatment (and related expenses) later.

Our team provides an environment where our patients develop a sense of responsibility toward their health, as well as increased confidence. We motivate our patients to recognize the importance of their health and to take an active, responsible role in it.

Our goal is to create natural and beautiful smiles, focusing on the most up-to-date technology available to ensure our patient’s orthodontic journeys are as exceptional, comfortable, and efficient as possible.

Length of Treatment

The average case treated with any kind of braces takes about 18 months to two years, though the overall treatment time will always vary according to the case. Dr. Shojaei has completed less complicated treatment in one year and more complex cases in as long as two and a half to three years. During your initial consultation, Dr. Shojaei will determine the length of treatment required to achieve your smile goals.

Metal Braces

Traditional metal braces are still the most popular, quickest, and most cost-effective orthodontic treatment available. Today’s metal braces are much smaller, flatter, and more comfortable than in the past. The brackets works like a door handle, and give Dr. Shojaei a way to hold onto the teeth and move them into the desired positions. The movement of the teeth comes from a wire that Dr. Shojaei bends and fits into the braces. The fun colours come from the small elastics that hold the wire inside the braces.

Patients of all ages choose metal braces to help them achieve straight, beautiful smiles. Metal braces are definitely the most popular with our younger patients, as they have so much fun playing with the different elastic colour combinations: blue and white to support the Toronto Blue Jays or Maple Leafs, red and black if you’re a Toronto Raptors fan, glow-in-the-dark elastics, and elastics that have hearts on them, just to name a few! Check out our colour chooser page to pick your favorite colours!

Metal braces are also a good choice for older patients who have limited space in their mouths, since metal brackets are smaller than ceramic braces. Even patients who prefer ceramic braces on their top teeth may prefer metal braces on the lower, as they are smaller and are easier to get used to.

Self-Ligating Braces

Self-ligating braces are made from the same materials as traditional braces; however, self-ligating braces do not require the use of elastics to engage the wires. Self-ligating braces come in traditional metal, ceramic, or clear brackets.

Self-ligating braces do not require adjustments quite as often as traditional braces, which make them a great option for busy professionals, students, and those who travel.

Clear Braces & Aligners

Clear Braces

Clear braces are a less noticeable alternative to traditional metal braces and provide patients with an equally effective treatment.

The ideal candidate for ceramic braces is a person who would like a little discretion surrounding their orthodontic treatment but still wants the treatment to progress as quickly as possible. Someone with a busy schedule and for whom removable aligners would be a challenge, due to having to remove them when eating and drinking while still having them in place 22 hours a day. Most of our Aurora Orthodontics patients in ceramic braces are over the age of 16 with a desire to have their treatment completed as efficiently as possible.

Clear Aligners

Clear aligners are a transparent, plastic form of dental braces used to adjust teeth. They are a great solution for patients seeking a more discreet orthodontic treatment than conventional braces, as they do not use brackets or wires.

Clear aligners are custom made to fit into your mouth like a mouthguard. Each set of trays is worn for a predetermined period of time, usually between one and two weeks, and moves your teeth slightly in the direction Dr. Shojaei had prescribed. The next set of trays will then continue the tooth movement and so on, until all the teeth are in their final position.

Lingual Braces

Lingual braces, placed on the tongue side of the teeth, are the completely invisible orthodontic option for patients who want to improve their smile without sacrificing comfort and aesthetics. With lingual braces, Dr. Shojaei is able to give you the beautiful smile you’ve always wanted, and no one will be able to tell you’re undergoing orthodontic treatment!
